Pioneering the Future at ESCO
The Arab Today: As VP of Operations and now Academic Director at ESCO, how do you balance driving operational innovation while fostering professional training to build future industry leaders?
Jack Boath replied, “It’s all about synergy and setting the highest standards. At ESCO, we don’t just adapt; we pioneer. Driving operational innovation means leveraging cutting-edge technologies like AI and advanced drones to redefine what’s possible in industries like oil and gas. At the same time, fostering professional training is about cultivating the next generation of leaders who can take these innovations and run with them. I firmly believe that the best way to lead is by example. By merging visionary operations with world-class training programs, we’re building a future where talent meets technology head-on. It’s a balance I thrive on and it’s one of the reasons ESCO is years ahead of the competition.
The Role of Drone Technology
The Arab Today: With your specialization in life cycle asset integrity and compliance for the offshore drilling sector, how do you see drone technology reshaping traditional compliance and integrity practices?
Jack Boath replied, “Drone technology is a game-changer, plain and simple. Traditional compliance and asset integrity practices were often time-consuming, labour-intensive and sometimes risky. With drones, particularly our advanced fixed-wing models, we’re delivering real-time, high-precision data faster and safer than ever before. Coupled with AI-driven reporting, these tools allow us to predict maintenance needs, detect anomalies and ensure compliance long before issues arise. This proactive approach not only saves costs but also significantly enhances safety and sustainability. ESCO isn’t just part of the change; we’re leading the revolution.”
Harnessing Technology
The Arab Today: ESCO emphasizes sustainability in its operations. Can you share how AI-driven reporting systems and fixed-wing drone technology contribute to more sustainable practices in the energy sector?
Jack Boath replied, “Sustainability is at the core of everything we do at ESCO. Our AI-driven reporting systems minimise waste by ensuring operations are more precise, reducing unnecessary resource usage and emissions. Fixed-wing drones, with their longer flight ranges and energy efficiency, allow us to monitor vast areas with minimal environmental impact. Together, these technologies enable us to streamline energy sector operations, improve safety and cut down on carbon footprints. This is sustainability in action—innovative, impactful and aligned with the global shift toward greener practices.”
Equipping Industry Leaders
The Arab Today: Your training facilities aim to equip professionals with the skills needed for an evolving industry. What emerging technologies or skill sets do you believe are critical for success in the oil, gas and energy sectors?
Jack Boath replied, “The future belongs to those who can master AI, data analytics and automation. At ESCO, we’re training professionals to not just operate drones but to harness the data they collect for smarter decision-making. Skills in predictive analytics, machine learning, and environmental compliance are becoming non-negotiable in the oil, gas and energy sectors. Additionally, soft skills like adaptability, problem-solving and collaborative leadership will be just as critical as technical expertise. Our training facilities are designed to blend these elements, creating a workforce that’s ready to tackle the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
Strategic Innovation at ESCO
The Arab Today: Having completed prestigious courses from Stanford, Harvard, and Gloucestershire University, how have these academic experiences influenced your strategic approach to ESCO’s growth and innovation?
Jack Boath replied, “Education is a cornerstone of my leadership philosophy. My experiences instilled a commitment to strategic thinking, innovation and bold decision-making. These programs and degrees didn’t just teach me to think outside the box—they taught me to eliminate the box altogether. At ESCO, I apply these principles by embracing disruptive technologies, fostering a culture of continuous learning and ensuring every decision is driven by both data and vision. This blend of academic rigor and practical application is what keeps us ahead in a rapidly evolving industry.”
Overcoming Regulatory Hurdles
The Arab Today: What are the biggest challenges you face when integrating cutting-edge technologies like AI and drones into highly regulated industries such as oil and gas, and how do you overcome them?
Jack Boath replied, “The biggest challenge is navigating the regulatory landscape while pushing the boundaries of innovation. In industries like oil and gas, regulations are rightly stringent to ensure safety and compliance. Our approach at ESCO is to work closely with regulators, demonstrating how our technologies not only meet but exceed these standards. We invest heavily in research, documentation and collaboration to ensure seamless integration. Challenges are opportunities in disguise and by tackling them head-on, we turn potential roadblocks into milestones.”
Pioneering the Future
Lastly we asked, “As ESCO continues to innovate, what is your vision for the company’s role in shaping the future of energy solutions and advancing operational efficiency globally?”
“The vision is clear: ESCO will be the global benchmark for innovation in energy solutions. We’re not just shaping the future; we’re building it. By combining cutting-edge drone technology, AI-driven insights and unparalleled expertise, we aim to redefine operational efficiency, safety and sustainability. Our goal is to lead industries into a new era of smarter, cleaner and more efficient practices. With our sights set on global expansion and continuous innovation, ESCO will remain at the forefront of transforming energy solutions for generations to come.” Jack Boath Concluded
